The itch of revenge April 29, 2008
Suppose somebody does you wrong.
It’s happened to all of us, I’m sure, that we have considered revenge at one time or another.
Well, it’s happened to me, one more time.
Somebody has done me wrong, because I had the gall to say “no thanks.”
With apparent joy, this person is laughing at me, right this very minute.
From time to time, this thought brings anger to the boiling point within my heart and soul, and I consider revenge.
But to what end?
My action will inevitably bring a reaction within the other person, and the whole sorry business will continue, like a virus that just won’t stop spreading inside of us both.
I ask myself, at these times when the itch for revenge is at its height, what’s the point of prolonging contact with a person I find distasteful?
Do I want to have more contact with this person, or do I let him crow with victory and get the hell away, as fast and as far away as I can get?
The voice inside of me, that is rarely wrong, urges me to get away.
And I have listened.
I shall not scratch this itch of revenge.
I’m just gone, as far away as I can get.
